This heading is a complete lie and totally not possible. But I will show you how to create your own website the fastest way possible. I am not going to go into the mumble jumble of why you need a website, or what will the purpose be and all that bla blab bla. You know you need web presence and I will try to give the tools and information on how to get it.
First thing is first, you need a Domain name (what that hell is a domain name Ray!!?.) Think about it as the address of your business. Just like a real business has a street address your online business needs one so that people can find you. So how do you get one you ask….? We buy it!!….. So, let’s head to Godaddy.com and buy one (or your favorite domain / hosting provider if you have one.)
Here is a video that explains step by step on how to buy a domain name in godaddy.com
Next step, we need to get a hosting plan for your website…. But Ray!!!!? Yes yes… I know you don’t understand what this hosting thing is all about so I’ll quickly explain without getting techie.
So now that you have your domain name (“street address of your business”) we need a place for you business. In real life you might rent a retail front, or maybe you run your business from home. The point is you need to rent some space where you are going to conduct your business from. This is the similar to having a hosting plan.
So if you didn’t purchased it yet let’s go back go godaddy.com (or your favorite hosting provider), login into your account and lets buy this thing already!
- Click on hosting (at the time of this blog this is at the top and it says & SSL)
- Click on web hosting
- Pick hosting of choice
If you are only going to have one website then the Economy hosting plan will do just fine, though I recommend going with something in the middle just in case you want to have more websites in the future hosted in the same server (“or ruining other business from the same building”).
Great! You are making awesome progress. You have a domain name and a hosting plan, that means you are ready to upload your website….. Wait what….? You don’t have a website to upload!! Oh no now what!!
OK, so my suggestion is to go with a content management system (CMS) like WordPress. A CMS will aloud you to pick a template and add all of your business information and also manage your site without needing to know how to code. Luckily godaddy.com (and most hosting providers) makes the step of installing WordPress very simple.
Here is a video to show you how to install WordPress on your godaddy.com account.
It will also show you how to:
- Login into you WordPress site
- How to install a theme
Now for the time consuming part…. Yes, you actually have to put a little time into it and there is a small learning curve.
You need to learn the basics of WordPress so that you can get the theme you chose up and running the way you want. For this I leave you with this great set of videos that will get you going with learning WordPress basics.
and that’s all folks short and sweet. I hope you find this information useful or at least entertaining. Thank you for reading and if you want to pick my brain about web design, web developments or what’s my favorite flovor of ice cream feel free to contact me. I am always happy to help.
